How to Login with a temporary password

After you have received an e-mail from CPS that tells you your user name and temporary password, do the following steps.  These steps also work when you have been locked out of your account and receive a temporary password.

1.   Click the CPS link in the e-mail (but keep the e-mail open).  The CPS Home page appears.

2.   Click My Account at the top of the screen.  The CM&AS Home screen opens.

3.   Click Click Here to Login.  The CM&AS Login screen opens.

4.   Enter [your user name from the CPS e-mail] in the User Name field.

If you were locked out of your account and CPS sent you an e-mail with a temporary password, you will use the same user name you have always used. 

5.   Enter [the temporary password from the CPS e-mail] in the Password field.  The Change Password screen opens.

Be sure to copy the temporary password exactly, with the same capitals and characters. 

6.   Enter [the same temporary password from the CPS e-mail] in the Enter Current Password field.

7.   Click the Password Policy hyperlink in the New Password field.  The CM&AS Password Policy popup appears.

8.   Note that you must enter a password that has nine characters and at least one letter or one number.

9.   Click Close Window on the CM&AS Password Policy popup.  The Change Password screen is in focus.

10.  Enter [your choice of a password] in the New Password field.

11.  Enter [the same choice of password in Step 9] in the Confirm New Password field.

12.  Click Change Password.  The Change Password Recovery Question and Answer popup appears.

Each time you enter a new password, you’ll also need to identify a password recovery question and answer.  To recover a password in the future, you’ll need to identify yourself by answering the recovery question.  If you have already entered both of these and want to keep the original entries, just skip the next two steps, and go to Step 14. 

13.  Enter [a password recovery question; examples—Favorite City?  Favorite Color?, etc.] in the Password Recovery Question field.

14.  Enter [the answer to the question] in the Password Recovery Answer field.

15.  Click Save Password Recovery Question and Answer.  The CM&AS Login screen appears.

16.  Enter [your user name] in the User Name field.

17.  Enter [the same password you created in Step 9] in the Password field.

18.  Click Log In.  The appropriate screen appears.
